I was a postdoctoral fellow in particle/nuclear physics at the California Institute of Technology for three years, after which I became a research scientist in astrophysics at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory where I studied the early universe and dark matter for 12 years. During my PhD, I spent two years as a volunteer physics teacher at Chancellor College in the country of Malawi, where I taught electromagnetism and classical mechanics.

I was confused at first how to calculate a function's derivative, but by the end of the session, I was confident in my understanding of the topic. We went through related practice problems and examples that eventually helped me on homework and my quiz.

I worked with Gary for about 15 lessons through both my classical mechanics and electromagnetism courses. He is truly a gifted tutor ? not only have I received excellent grades in both classes, but I also enjoyed the process. Gary is able to condense hard to understand concepts into clear, straightforward ideas. He has a remarkable mastery of physics, often pointing out errors in the assignments given to me or things that my professor missed. I have worked with many tutors (both on Wyzant and other platforms), and great ones are hard to come by; Gary is one of them. I recommend him without reservation.

I came to Gary when I was stuck on a project related to coding orbital mechanics. He was very quick to understand what it was I was trying to accomplished and he was rapid to respond to queries even outside of lesson hours. I achieved everything I had set out to achieve with his guidance and therefore I highly recommend Gary as a tutor.

We have been discussing including the mathematics behind Astrophysics to build a strong foundation. He is patient and methodically builds the knowledge base to enhance understanding. I am looking forward to learning more and potentially participating in competitive events on this topic.

Have not been able to stump Professor Gary yet. He has been an invaluable resource for my son who is a 3rd year Physics major at one of the toughest programs in the country. He has helped with everything from Mechanics to Electricity and Magnetism to Quantum Mechanics. Haven?t been able to stump him yet.

We highly recommend Gary as a physics tutor as we found him through the top reviews on Wyzant and he never disappointed. He was highly confident he could raise my daughters score in under 2weeks for SAT physics and he was very efficient in guidance and tutelage by fortifying some of the needed areas and also giving challenging problems to steer her into the right direction. She was able to do the rest, and a perfect denouement of her achieving almost a full score in one of the hardest SAT subject (physics). We were thrilled.
- Ivan S. from Piscataway, NJ
Gary was able to answer questions I have not been able to find anyone else who could answer. He is very facile with advanced physics and mathematics. I would highly recommend him.

Gary is the best tutor I have met. He helps me with my Quantum Mechanics right now. He is incredibly knowledgeable and can answer immediately no matter what kind of questions I ask. He helps me go through many difficult lectures. When I feel confused for some difficult concepts, he very patiently and nicely explains them until I understand everything. He is a super super great teacher!

Gary was so helpful to my son on hisRocket science research paper. His explanations of complex topics are clear and easy to understand. My son thoroughly enjoyed working with him.

I am a college freshman taking calculus based physics (Thermodynamics and Optics) and felt completely, utterly lost and desperate in the class. I had a midterm approaching in four days and felt that I knew nothing and would fail. I was even considering dropping the class. I decided to try and work through it with a tutor though, and I am so grateful I did. Gary has been an incredibly helpful tutor for me. In a single two hour session he was able to make me feel so much more confident, confident enough that I decided to not drop. After a second session the day before the midterm, I actually felt pretty well prepared, a truly extraordinary difference compared to how I was feeling only a couple days earlier. Gary was not only very knowledgeable (there wasn't a single question I had that he didn't have a very clear, well-explained answer for), but he was also very patient with me when I struggled to understand a concept. He also worked to make sure I truly understood the concepts, asking me to work out problems myself as he watched and pointing me in the right direction instead of simply doing problems for me. It was also impressive how effective and efficient he was in helping me understand concepts and gain confidence. With a midterm fast approaching I didn't have time to waste, and Gary more than delivered, helping me understand the physics concepts, as well as the complicated math behind it, in an incredibly tight time frame. Overall I could not have done it without Gary's help. I was able to not only pass the midterm, but actually did better than average. Considering how I felt before our tutoring sessions, such a score was something that seemed impossible; but Gary helped make it possible and I am incredibly grateful for his help not only on the midterm, but also in showing me that yes, I can in fact handle this class :)

Gary broke down complex concepts in chemical and petroleum engineering and explained it to me from basic principles. I feel Gary has a deep understanding of physics and math concepts.

Will absolutely work with him again! He was so knowledgeable while also being patient and taking the time to help me learn. Gary was approachable and just a kind person. I learned so much and revived an A on my exam following our session!
- Caroline C. from New York, NY
Gary helped my 10th grade prepared for National Astronomy Olympiad. He is very knowledgeable and he is always well prepared for the lesson. Learning with him is not only gaining the knowledge of the subject but also learning an organized way to study a new subject. Highly recommend .

Gary helped my son with AP Physics. He was thorough and able to break the concepts down in a way that was very digestible for my son. My son enjoyed working with Gary and would recommend him.
- Andrea M. from Long Beach, CA
Gary is an enthusiastic, organized and detail oriented tutor. Very nice, patient and explains things clearly. Gary is willing to keep reviewing the material and apply examples in different ways until the subject is well understood. If we are solving a very long problem together, he will find a good stopping point close to the end of the session and will review what was performed. When we meet again, we quickly review what was covered before and how we will approach the problem for the rest of the session. This helps to retain the material. Gary always gives encouragement and asks me to participate creating the tutoring session as an interactive learning experience. This helps learning Differential Equations and Calculus fun as well as for better retention of the subject matter. Doing this helped me re-grasp Calculus and Differential Equations in a much more engaging way than I had in my undergraduate courses I took over ten years ago. I recommend Gary and will continue getting help from him to better understand my course material.

My daughter is a high school senior. She is being tutored for ap physics and ap calculus. Gary has been an excellent Tutor and mentor. I am grateful for his experitise in teaching such complex material and his contagious love of physics.
- Maria Q. from Pasadena, CA
Very knowledgeable! We are working on the theories about Euler's equation, Newtonian and laggrange equations. He knows all the stuff and very patiently. We work together with lots of the equation derivations for the trajectory with Air resistance and Gary well prepared the materials before the session and explained step by step very clearly. Most of those equations we have not accessed before, but Gary still do very well!
- Y s. from Port Matilda, PA
My son had a two-hour lesson with Gary the other day (AP Physics), which went very well indeed. Gary is very patient, and his style of teaching gives the student a real, as opposed to a rote, understanding of the topic.
- Richard D. from Los Angeles, CA
Gary is incredibly intelligent in a variety of fields/subjects. He has been tutoring me in Quantum Mechanics, which is a very difficult course to find a tutor for. Every time I meet with him I am confident that he will know the answers to all of my questions, as well as any homework that I am assigned. He also is very helpful in explaining concepts, and has a great talent at being able to adjust to his students? learning styles. I highly recommend Gary as a tutor for any physics or mathematics course.
- Nick K. from Los Angeles, CA
Gary is an excellent and very patient tutor. Our daughter had tried out several other calculus tutors before Gary (all of whom were also very good) but she definitely felt the most comfortable with Gary. He has command of the subject matter, is very patient and makes himself very available at times when he is needed. Our daughter is definitely more relaxed and confident in her math skills thanks to Gary?s help.
